The Banker, Cannon Street
FancyaPint?'s review...
Tucked down a side street under the shadow of Cannon Street station we weren't expecting the Banker to be much of a revelation. We were wrong - it's a spacious pub, well lit, with a cracking conservatory area overlooking the river. And there's reasonable outside seating also with river views. Okay, if you look too closely you have a loading bay (actually containers of refuse) in your eye-line but, hey, river views of London whilst having a few beers (a rather good selection of Fuller's at that) are not to be sniffed at. On a sunny day, the terrace is usually crowded if you don't get your beach towel out first thing - but the well-trained staff cope well with crowds. We recommend you sneak off to get here early if it's a nice day.

Used to use this pub quite allot. A welcome respite from all the other chain bars. The food is well worth the trek and value for money (recommend the half chicken and wedges to cure any hangover!). Good cold beer. Shame we never now go there as the staff are rude and belligerent so we now use the Bell round the corner.

Had a couple of pints here yesterday. A nice Fuller's Discovery Blonde Beer. Couldn't find any room on the outside deck, so I took a seat on the steps down to the Thames beside the deck and watched the tide creeping up the steps. The cargo loading nearby just added to the atmosphere, made all the bankers there in suits seem a little less Yuppie-ish.

How to find the The Banker pub
Turn left out of Cannon Street Station then left again. Walk straight down to the river (alongside the station, crossing Upper Thames Street) and you should see it at the end.
